A Day s wait

wel i was still jobless yesterday until my cousin came home to study. Me teachin him, of course, wud come to u as a huge shock!

Nerd was here too showin his potential ability to teach engineering mechanics to my cousin. the study session was all going fine until afternoon wen i got a cal from from another cousin of mine statin tat his sis who got recently married had come home (as a responsible citizen to cast her vote there in the pollin centre next to their house!!!!)

now mood changes, me and my cousin decide to go there. v ate and did some post lunch studyin for sometime and then start by 4. wel Nerd dint turn up in the afternoon as he was leaving to Shillong today mornin and had some last minute packing to complete. Well, then we all set to go.

my cousin s place is at thoraipakkam and v had to go via IT corridor. as it was the pollin day, it was unusually quiet and most of the shops and establishments remained closed. so seein nothing happenenin around, lotsa things come to my mind.. election, politics, corruption, lok paritran.. hmmm good move by the IITians.. and good inspiration from mani ratnam.. hope lok partran makes a difference.

the evening was total fun with a small get together with cousins.. since my recently married cousin and I had gone there, it became a reason for the rest of them to hop in.. anyway after some random talk and little bit of time pass v sat down to eat..

hmmm nice dinner.. was enjoyin it heartily. jus then "the call" comes. it was a cal from vellore. as obvious , it was Sandy

me: hello

Sandy: hey did u read the mail

me: so wat have u sent me?

Sandy: dint u receive the mail?

me: wat mail?

Sandy: hey joinin date from infy. its 29 th may

me: r u sure? u must be kidding.

Sandy: am serious. lotsa ppl got it.

me: 29 th may? am so excited. but its too early..

Sandy: i have not received the mail. y don u check urs?

me: ya.. wil do it right away. bye

and i jus wash my hands and turn on my cousins lappy.. lappy was stylish but the connection was pathetic.. BSNL dial-up. gettin used to the broadband, even a time delay of 1 min to connect seems to be like ages.. and obviously in such situations it gets really worse.. it was not gettin connected. so i calld another cousin of mine to connect to net.. he stays nearby and i can go there and check rather than waitin..

and i go there in an instant.. he had already connected.. i jus went in and typed my id in the yahoo mail page..and waitin to connect... moments can become really taxing..

i opened to find no new mails.. disapppointment.. impatience.. don know how to define it.. and both my cousins on my either sides consolin me.. they obviously understood wat i was undergoing.. and i say i wanna leave home now.. one of them offer to drop me.. they lil hesitant to let me go on my own..

so i come bac.. cal up almost everyone who got placed along with me.. ya they had all got their cals... i hastly took my offer letter.. try a couple of numbers from the infy HR only to find out tat i cant speak to them until tomorrow mornin 9.30. so i was literally hooked up to the comp checkin all tat i could.. infy site, infy communities on orkut.. 29 th may stuff was there on all communities.. so many posts in so little time!!

i met so many seniors online.. all of them adviced me to wait for a day or 2... driven to the level of impatience, i cal up kaushik.. he worked in infy for 2 years and now in iimb.. thought he wud give me some real info.. explained to him.. he told me tat since it was a systems generated mail, it breaks up in between and comes the next day sometimes.. the worst case cud be tat i can get the date for the next batch...

this systems generated mail thing gave me a lot of hope.. and i reluctantly go to sleep.. it was already 1.30 and Nerd was leavin in the mornin at 4. so had to speak to him b4 tat, biddin him goodbye and wishin him happy journey.. was having a really disturbed sleep.. i switch on the comp again.. log into yahoo.. and there comes our Robotics Guru online.. he was also having a disturbed sleep.. he had his phd thing and his visa interview in his mind..

at the stroke of midnight hour.. wen the whole world is asleep... 2 worried ppl chatting in the middle of the night..

wat else cud v do..?

and i somehow log off after Nerd called me at 3.. jus lie down wide awake thinkin.. i was waitin for it to become 9.30 so tat i can cal infy HR..

had slept for sometime.. may be half an hour i guess.. again lotsa cals comin in.. answered them all.. and Robotics Guru gives me fresh news tat he got a phone cal from infy confirmin the joinin date.. and again Sandy tels me the same thing..

and now like a small kid yearning for an ice-cream or chocolate, i am there anticipating a mail or a cal..

finally called up infy-mysore.. they doint have list with them.. was told to cal infy-b lore. called there they too were not able to tel me anythin concrete.. all tat they cud do is to direct me to some ppl.. and asked me to call around 11.. the whole day i was makin so many calls to b lore and mysore takin turns.. finally someone in infy-blore tels me tat my name was not in the list.. wait a min.. which list is she speakin about...?

got lil tensed and i cal up arun who s in infy b lore.. he told me to cal around 3 to mysore number.. if i don get a convincin reply, he promised me to find out from the HR in person tomoro morning.. tats very sweet of him..

called up to mysore again at 3 in the afternoon.. and guess wat i ended up speakin to the same person Kaushik from HR since mornin for the third time.. this time, he cud not help laughing.. he also started consolin me.. made friends with him.. tat was the only gud outcome of the entire infy tragi-comedy..

then started for the drivin class.. thought it wil give me some real break.. after tat did some vegetable shoppin for the heck of it.. (look wat all u have to do for the sake of diverting ur mind!!!!)

and my cousin came in the evening at 6.30.. taught him some datastructures till 9.30..

and til now, was either attendin cals or online.. speakin bout the same thin over and over... infy ..

and stil...............................................

waitin for the mail....
